The Pittsburgh Pirates and left-handed pitcher Jeff Locke are parting ways. The Pirates designated Locke for assignment Tuesday. He finished last season on the disabled list after posting a 5.44 ERA in 127-1/3rd innings. The move allowed the Pirates to sign 26-year old right-handed pitcher Lisalverto Bonilla, a free agent pitcher who carried a 3.97 ERA at the Double-A and Triple-A classes last season.
Locke came to the Pirates in a deal with the Atlanta Braves in 2009 that also brought them starting pitcher Charlie Morton and outfielder Gorkys Hernandez in exchange for outfielder Nate McLouth.
The Chicago Cubs appear to moving on from centerfielder Dexter Fowler afte signing Jon Jay to a one-year $8 million contract Tuesday.
Outfielder Yoenis Cespedes signed a new four-year contract with the New York Mets. The deal is reportedly worth a total of $110 million.
The Miami Marlins have signed former Pirate pitcher Edinson Volquez to a two-year $22 million contract.
