The Pittsburgh Pirates swept the Chicago White Sox following another dramatic comeback victory Wednesday. The Pirates won 6-5 thanks to a four-run ninth inning. Catcher Elias Diaz had a two-run double, and the inning was capped off by a Colin Moran two-run home run. Jordy Mercer and Gregory Polanco also hit home runs in the game.
The Pirates improved to 21-16 overall, and after being swept by Washington, have won four of five games. They are 1/2-game behind St. Louis in the N.L. Central. It is the fastest the Pirates have won their 21st game of the season under manager Clint Hurdle.
The Bucs are off today and begin a nine-game homestand Friday when they host San Francisco. The weekend series will feature the return of former Pirate outfielder Andrew McCutchen.
