The Pittsburgh Pirates entered Tuesday’s game with division-rival Cincinnati on a three-game losing streak. They promptly fell behind 4-0 before a seven-run fourth inning saved their night. Catcher Francisco Cervelli hit a three-run home run and Andrew McCutchen added a solo shot in the inning. Reliever Rob Scahill picked up the victory in relief of starter Jeff Locke. Mark Melancon picked up his 24th save of the season. Melancon and Tony Watson struck out the side in the eighth and ninth innings.
Locked allowed four runs, two earned over four innings. He walked two and did not strike out a batter. The Reds went 4-for-17 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base. The victory was the seventh win in a row for the Pirates at PNC Park.
