The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the San Francisco Giants 10-3 Monday night in the opening game of a three-game series. The Pirates had 14 hits in the game. Andrew McCutchen and Jordy Mercer each hit three-run home runs. McCutchen drove in four runs in the game. Josh Bell added three hits. Gerrit Cole picked up his eighth win of the season to help the Pirates improve to .500 once again. They are now 50-50 overall and currently 2-1/2 games behind the first-place Milwaukee Brewers. The Cubs are 1/2-game back. Jameson Taillon will start for the Pirates tonight against Madison Bumgarner of the Giants. Taillon is 6-3 with a 3.08 ERA this season. Bumgarner, who missed part of the season after a dirt bike accident, is 0-4 with a 3.57 ERA. Game time is 10:15pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am will be 9:50pm.
