The Pittsburgh Pirates let an opportunity slip by with a 6-4 loss in 13-innings to the Milwaukee Brewers at PNC Park last night. The Bucs fell behind 3-0 in the first inning, but the Pirates worked their way back in the game with an Andrew McCutchen home run in the eight inning that tied the score. Gregory Polanco extended the game with another home run in the 12th inning after the Pirates fell behind 4-3. Radhames Liz took the loss in relief, allowing three earned runs in the 11th and 12th innings. Pirate starter A.J. Burnett allowed only the three earned runs in the first inning in his return to the mound. Burnett went five innings, allowing three hits and striking out three.
The Pirates could have gained a game on St. Louis, who were defeated 11-0 by Cincinnati last night. Instead, they remain 4-1/2 games back. The Chicago Cubs were idle, and gained a half game on both St. Louis and the Pirates. The Bucs host Milwaukee again tonight at 7:05pm.
