The Pittsburgh Pirates were no match for the Chicago Cubs last night in the opening game of a four-game series at PNC Park. The Cubs scored 10 runs over the fourth through sixth innings to break open a 1-0 game and win 12-2. Chad Kuhl started the game for the Pirates and allowed five earned runs over three innings. He pitched to seven batters in the fourth inning without recording an out. Steven Brault pitched in the sixth and seventh innings and allowed seven runs, although only three were earned.
The loss put the Pirates record at 77-79 overall, and they are one game away from Wild Card elimination.
The two teams play again tonight at 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 6:40pm.
The Pirates acquired infielder Chris Bostick from Washington Monday sending Single-A minor league catcher Taylor Gushue and cash to the Nationals. Bostick completed this season at Triple-A.
