Behind a solid outing from Jeff Locke and a grand slam from Michael Morse, the Pirates defeated the Brewers 10-2 Saturday night at PNC Park.
Locke tossed a solid 6.1 innings allowing only one earned run and striking out seven. He got early support from the Bucs offense, when they plated five runs in the third inning.
In the 7th inning, Michael Morse’s fly ball to right field just eclipsed the Clemente Wall for a pinch hit grand slam that opened the game up, giving the Pirates double digit runs.
The Cardinals lost twice Saturday while playing two innings left from Friday’s game and the scheduled Saturday game which means the Pirates now are only 2.5 games behind St. Louis. The Cubs lost to the Phillies as well, giving the Bucs a three game buffer between them and Chicago.
The Pirates will send Francisco Liriano (10-9, 3.28 ERA) to face off against the Brewers’ Taylor Jungman (9-6. 2.87 ERA). First pitch is at 1:35 p.m. and can be heard on WISR 680 AM.
