The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the Chicago Cubs 6-4 last night at PNC Park. The loss, combined with a San Francisco Giants win last night, officially eliminated the Pirates from the National League Wild Card competition. Ryan Vogelsong took the loss, allowing four earned runs over five innings. His record fell to 3-7. Cubs starter John Lackey allowed one run in five innings. His record improved to 11-8. The Bucs are now 77-80 overall with five games remaining in their season.
The Pirates host the Cubs again tonight. Jameson Taillon (4-4, 3.49 ERA) will start for the Bucs. Jake Arrieta (18-7, 2.85 ERA) for the Cubs. First pitch is 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 6:40pm.
