Outfielder Matt Joyce has signed a free agent contract with the Oakland Athletics. Joyce signed a minor league free agent contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates last season and went on to hit 13 home runs. He led the major league’s with 15 runs batted in as a pinch hitter last season with the Bucs. He will make $11 million over two years with the A’s.
Widespread reports indicate the Pirates are actively shopping outfielder Andrew McCutchen. Major League Baseball will hold their annual “winter meetings” beginning Monday in Baltimore, Maryland.
Meanwhile, the players union and major league owners have verbally agreed on a new five-year labor pact. The current collective bargaining agreement was to expire last night at midnight.
