The St. Louis Cardinals completed a three-game series sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates following a 7-6 victory Thursday afternoon at PNC Park. The Pirates have now lost eight in a row, and sent the Bucs to their MLB-leading 13th sweep of the season. First baseman Colin Moran hit two home runs for the Pirates in the loss.
The Bucs managed 10 hits in the game, with outfielder Bryan Reynolds entering the game late as a pinch-hitter. He added two hits in his two at-bats, including his 20th home run of the year.
Ke’Bryan Hayes and Kevin Newman also had two hits each.
Pirates starting pitcher JT Brubaker allowed five runs on five hits over his five innings of work. His record fell to 4-12.
The Pirates open a three-game series with the first-place Milwaukee Brewers tonight at 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR is 6:40pm.
The first selection in the recent MLB Draft, catcher Henry Davis, will begin his minor league play at High-A Greensboro. The team decided to have Davis skip Low-A ball in Florida and join some of the Pirates top minor league prospects like pitcher Quinn Priester and infielder Nick Gonzales, both who are also recent top draft picks.
