The Pittsburgh Pirates put 10 runs on the board Friday night at PNC against the Cardinals but it still wasn’t enough as they lose 11-10.
They trailed 11-3 in the 8th inning but scored five runs making it 11-8 going into the 9th. Pirates rookie Max Moroff hit a towering home run in the 8th inning that bounced into the river. Josh Bell and Elias Diaz both hit RBI doubles in the 8th inning to cut the deficit to three runs.
In the 9th, Starling Marte and Moroff each walked with one out and Sean Rodriguez was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Former Pirate Zach Duke came in the game with one out in 9th and walked in a run and was removed from the game. David Freese hit a sacrifice fly that made it to the warning track in center field making it a one run game. Elias Diaz then struck out to end the game.
