The Pittsburgh Pirates lost 3-1 to the Cincinnati Reds Monday to open a three-game series. The Pirates started Sean Rodriguez at shortstop in the game and he had two errors, one in the second inning that led to the Reds scoring all three of their runs off starting pitcher Jeff Locke. Rodriguez was also picked off in the ninth inning. Locke pitched five innings, allowing four hits. He walked two and struck out six. The Pirates remain five and a half games behind first-place St. Louis after they were shut-out 9-0 Monday by the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs are just two games behind the Pirates.
The Bucs and Reds meet again tonight at 7:10pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 6:45pm.
When the Pirates return home Thursday to open a four-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers, A.J. Burnett will take the place of Gerrit Cole in the rotation. Cole will be skipped for a start for rest purposes.
