Pirates:
Ronald Acuna Jr. hit a grand slam, Ozzie Albies added two homers and the Braves beat Pittsburgh 13-7 last night after Pirates starter Joe Musgrove was ejected in a first-inning skirmish. All total the Braves hit five homers in the game. Starling Marte hit two homers and drove in four runs for Pittsburgh.
Joe Musgrove hit Josh Donaldson with a first-inning pitch. And as Donaldson began walking to first base, he exchanged words with Musgrove, and then shoved catcher Elias Diaz. The umpires announced ejections for Musgrove and Donaldson.
Pirates manager Clint Hurdle was ejected by home plate umpire Brian Gorman after arguing the decision to toss Musgrove.
Pirates rookie Bryan Reynolds went 0-for-5, ending his 17-game hitting streak and 24-game streak of reaching base safely.
Atlanta has won four straight, while the Pirates are on a four-game skid. They will play again tonight. Chris Archer will make the start tonight.
Jordan Lyles was placed on the 10-day IL with hamstring tightness adding to the pitching troubles for the Pirates..
The Pirates recalled right-hander Montana DuRapau from Triple-A Indianapolis. DuRapau is 0-1 with a 7.27 ERA in eight appearances for the Pirates this season.
The Pirates on Monday signed their first-round draft pick, high school pitcher Quinn Priester. Priester will start his career with the Gulf Coast League Pirates. Priester is expected to be introduced today at PNC Park. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Priester was a two-sport star at Cary-Grove High School in Cary, Ill., and was named the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year in baseball.
Other baseball:The Arizona Diamondbacks and Philadelphia Phillies set a new Major League Baseball record with a combined 13 home runs in Arizona’s 13-8 win last night. The Diamondbacks hit eight of the homers and the Phillies had five. The previous game record was a combined 12 home runs, set in a Chicago White Sox-Detroit Tigers game in 1995 and by the White Sox-Tigers again in 2002.
