The Bucs have been involved in sweeps for each of their first five series to open the season. For the first time in recorded history, the Pirates were swept in a series, while allowing just six runs. The Pirates fell to 6-9 overall, and end their six-game road trip at 3-3. The Pirates only run came from a Josh Bell home run. The Bucs had just five hits, but still left seven men on base. Gerrit Cole took the loss. He allowed both runs on six hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out eight.
The Pirates are off today and host the New York Yankees beginning tomorrow night. The Yankees have won nine of their past 10 games, although eight of those wins came at Yankees stadium.
