The Cincinnati Reds defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-6 last night at the Great American Ball Park . Kevin Newman hit his first home run of the season, a grand slam in the Pirates eighth inning. The Reds Derek Dietrich hit three home runs in the game.
The injury woes continue. Pirates starting pitcher Jordan Lyles was forced to leave the game with hamstring discomfort after the fourth inning. Second baseman Adam Frazier did not play last night and missed Game 2 of Monday’s doubleheader after being hit by a pitch in the opening game of the series.
The Pirates are now 26-27 and remain four back in the NL Central.
The Bucs and Reds complete their series today at 12:35pm. Steven Brault will start for the Pirates, who open a four-game series with Milwaukee tomorrow night at PNC Park.
