The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the Miami Marlins 10-3 Sunday in Florida. Pirate starting pitcher Chad Kuhl had to leave the game after being struck in the leg by a batted ball. The Pirates bullpen faltered, allowing seven earned runs. Daniel Hudson, who was acquired from Arizona during the off-season, allowed five of the earned runs in just 1/3rd of an inning. His ERA is 9.90. Josh Bell hit his 4th home run of the season.
The Pirates had to call-up John Bormann from the Class-A Bradenton team Sunday to replace Francisco Cervelli who has a foot injury. They likely will have Elias Diaz join the team in Cincinnati. The Pirates also called up outfielder Danny Ortiz to take the spot of David Freese, who was placed ont he disabled list.
The Pirates took two of three games in the series, and now head to Cincinnati to play a four-game series beginning tonight. Gerrit Cole goes to the mound for the Pirates. First pitch is 7:10pm.
