The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the San Francisco Giants 4-3 Sunday. The two teams split their four-game series. Giants rookie pitcher Dereck Rodriguez allowed just two Pirates hits over seven innings. Pirates starting pitcher Joe Musgrove allowed all for Giants runs on seven hits over his six innings of work. His record fell to 4-7 overall. Starling Marte had a two-run double in the Pirates eighth inning.
The Bucs are off today before visiting Minnesota for two games Tuesday and Wednesday. They return home to open a four-game series with the Chicago Cubs Thursday.
The Cubs shocked the Washington Nationals last night with a walk-off pinch-hit grand slam home run. Prior to the final pitch, the Cubs were down three with two outs and two strikes.
The Pirates are eight games behind the Cubs, five back in the Wild Card chase.
The Altoona Curve lost 4-3 in 11-innings to Erie Sunday. They split a four-game series with the SeaWolves.
