The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the Chicago Cubs 7-0 Memorial Day Monday at PNC Park. Chad Kuhl alowed just one run on four hits over six innings, but took the loss, as the Pirates managed just two hits in the game. The Pirates bullpen allowed six runs over the final three innings.
Pirates manager Clint Hurdle was ejected in the eighth inning following a controversial slide by Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo, who slid in front of home plate and intentionally into Pirates catcher Elias Diaz on a force play. Diaz suffered a bruised leg, but was able to continue in the game.
The Pirates have dropped to 28-25 and are six games beind first-place Milwaukee. The Bucs and Cubs play again tonight at 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am will be 6:40pm. Nick Kingham will start for the Pirates tonight. Ivan Nova has been placed on the disabled list with a sprained finger. The Pirates also placed reliever George Kontos on unconditional release waivers.
