The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 8-4 last night. A four-run seventh inning swung the game in the Cardinals favor. Despite the loss, the Bucs took two of three games in the series, and they completed a seven game road trip against Central Division opponents 4-3. Pirate starter Chad Kuhl allowed four runs and eight hits over five-plus innings. Juan Nicasio took the loss, allowing three earned runs in 1/3rd of an inning.
The Pirates are off today and host the Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday. The Bucs are six games under .500 and five games behind first-place Milwaukee.
Pirates top draft pick Shane Baz begins his professional career today with his first start for his new Gulf Coast League Pirates team in Bradenton. Baz signed a $4.1 million contract with the Pirates and decided to turn pro after the Pirates selected him. He had originally committed to play college baseball at TCU.
