The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the Miami Marlins 5-4 last night in 10-innings. Felipe Vazquez blew a save in the ninth inning, then the Marlins Garrett Cooper hit a game-winning home run in the top of the 10th. Pirates second baseman Adam Frazier had three of the Pirates four hits and drove in three runs. He hit his ninth home run of the year.
Starting pitcher Mitch Keller left the game after being struck in the right wrist by a line drive by Cooper. Keller had struck out three batter in the first 1-2/3rds innings.
The Bucs and Marlins play again tonight at 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:40pm. Trevor Williams will start for the Pirates.
Felipe Vazquez had been named the National League reliever of the month for August.
The Pirates called up five players from the minor league’s as rosters expanded. Outfielder Jason Martin was one of those players. He was injured sliding into home plate after entering the game as a pinch-hitter.
