The Miami Marlins defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 in 12 innings last night and took three of four games in their series with the Bucs. The Pirates managed just four hits for the second consecutive game.
The Pirates had four players leave the game due to an injury. Andrew McCutchen left the game in the sixth inning with right thumb discomfort. Francisco Cervelli fouled a ball off his foot and had to leave for x-rays. David Freese and Jordy Mercer also left the game after being struck by pitches.
Outfielder Gregory Polanco fouled a pitch off his foot Tuesday night and missed the last two games of the series.
The Pirates return home to host the Los Angeles Angels for a three-game series beginning tonight at 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am will be6:40pm.
The Pirates have fallen 8-1/2 games behind the first-place Chicago Cubs during their three-game losing streak. They play nine of their next ten games at home. Their nine-game home-stand will be interrupted by a visit to Colorado for a make-up game June 9th.
