The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the Atlanta Braves 2-1 Sunday at PNC Park. The Bucs managed only six hits and were held scoreless until the ninth inning. The Pirates managed to score a run off former closer Jason Grilli, before Grilli ended the game for his 21st save of the season. Pirate starter Jeff Locke took the loss, allowing one earned run over five innings. Shortstop Jordy Mercer had three of the Pirates six hits, and drove in the only run.
The Pirates lost another game to first-place St. Louis who completed a sweep of the Chicago Cubs following a 4-1 victory last night. The win was the Cardinals sixth in a row. The Pirates still have the second-best record in the National League behind St. Louis. The Bucs are off today and travel to Detroit for three games beginning tomorrow prior to a 10-game homestand.
Pirate outfielder Andrew McCutchen returned to the line-up Sunday after being struck on the elbow by a pitch Saturday. He left that game in the first inning. McCutchen singled in four at-bats yesterday.
