The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Cincinnati Reds 1-0 Wednesday afternoon. Mitch Keller tossed seven shutout innings. He allowed two hits and struck out seven. The Pirates scored the only run of the game in the eighth when Bryan Reynolds hit a solo home run. He extended his hitting streak to a career-high 17 games.
Colin Holderman earned the victory in relief of Keller with a perfect eighth. David Bednar earned his 16th save with a perfect ninth inning.
Pirates pitchers allowed just three runs in the three-game series with the Reds, with the Bucs taking two of the three games.
The Pirates are off today and begin a three-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays Friday night at PNC Park.
