The Pirates were able to avoid a no-hitter last night against the Arizona Diamondbacks but fell for the fifth straight game with a 2-1 loss.
Diamondbacks starter Zack Grienke took his no-hit bid into the 7th inning before Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco sent a ball over the outfield wall. Polanco’s homer drew the Pirates within one, but the lackluster offensive woes continued again for the Pirates as they only had one other baserunner reach.
Gerrit Cole was the hard-luck loser for the Bucs, going seven strong innings, surrendering only two runs. He drops to 1-4 on the season, despite a 3.06 ERA.
The Pirates now drop to 14-21 on the season and in addition to losing five in a row, have lost seven out of their last ten games. They take on the Diamondbacks again tonight at 9:40 p.m. Tyler Glasnow gets the start for the Bucs, and Patrick Corbin will take the mound for Arizona. You can hear the game on WISR 680 AM.
