The Pittsburgh Pirates completed a three-game series sweep of the Detroit Tigers Thursday following an 8-4 victory. Second baseman Neil Walker had another big day with four hits and three RBI’s. Catcher Francisco Cervelli hit his fourth home run of the year. Pirate starter Francisco Liriano allowed five hits over seven shut-out innings. He lowered his ERA to 2.99 while improving his record to 5-6. Mark Melancon picked up his 25th save by getting the final out of the game.
The Bucs begin a 10-game homestand tonight. The Cleveland Indians bring a four-game winning streak to PNC Park. First pitch is 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 6:40pm.
The Pirates and Indians play afternoon games Saturday and Sunday.
St. Louis lost their third game in a row last night. San Diego defeated the Cardinals 5-3 enabling the Pirates to gain more ground in the National League Central Division. The Bucs are now six games behind St. Louis.
