The Pittsburgh Pirates’ climb to 100 wins continues after a 4-0 win against the Cubs Saturday afternoon.
The Buccos, who have now won eight games in a row, had a solid performance from pitcher Francisco Liriano. Liriano, who pitched 7 and two-third innings, allowing four hits and striking out nine Cubs’ batters. With all of the strikeouts, Liriano now has 200 strikeouts on the season.
Pirates shortstop Jordy Mercer led the offensive effort. He had a big three-run homer in the fifth. It was Mercer’s third homerun this season.
The Pirates (95-60) and Cubs (89-65) will wrap up their three game series tonight in Chicago at 8:10pm. The last regular season game for the Pirates, is next Sunday.
