It was a whirlwind trip for some of the Pittsburgh Pirates players on Thursday as their annual CARE-A-Van cruised into Butler.
The group, which included pitchers Jameson Taillon and Nick Kingham, bullpen catcher Jordan Comadena, catcher Jacob Stallings, infielder Max Moroff and pitching coach Jeff Branson, first made at stop at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Butler Township. While there, they visited with the residents, passed out some gifts, and even had time for a quick game of ball- whiffle ball, that is, inside the center’s activities room.
From there, the group got back in the bus and cruised to the Salvation Army in Butler to help make a Butler family’s Christmas extra-special.
The players and coaches showered a local family of seven with Christmas gifts. The family was enjoying a free holiday lunch at the Salvation Army in Butler when the baseball players surprised them.
The effort was part of the annual trip taken by the Pirates Charities CARE-A-Van.
The Pirates annual fan convention PirateFest will take place this weekend in downtown Pittsburgh.
