The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the New York Mets 6-5 last night at PNC Park. The Mets scored a run in the 10th inning off reliever Cory Luebke to win their first game against the Pirates in nine tries. Jameson Taillon made his major league debut in last night’s game. He allowed three runs on six hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out three. Three of the four Pirate relievers who followed Taillon allowed a run to the Mets. The lone exception was Tony Watson who struck out the side in the ninth inning to force the extra inning.
Gregory Polanco had three hits in the game last night, all three were doubles. Jon Jaso added two of the Pirates 10 hits, but they stranded 11 runners.
Starling Marte missed last night’s game with an ankle injury.
The Bucs are in Colorado for a quick stop to make up a game with the Rockies. First pitch at Coors Field will be 5:05pm. Hear the game beginning at 4:40pm on WISR 680am and leading up to the Penguins-Sharks game which will follow. They return home to host the St. Louis Cardinals this weekend at PNC Park. The Cardinals trail the Pirates by one game in the Central Division. The Bucs trail Chicago by 9-1/2 games.
The Major League Baseball Draft begins tonight. The Pirates will make three picks in the first two rounds. They have the 22nd, 41st and 68th selections.
