The Pittsburgh Pirates scored seven runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Chicago Cubs 9-2 last night at PNC Park. The victory snapped a nine-game losing streak for the Bucs, and extended the Cubs losing streak to seven games. The Pirates had been no-hit into the sixth inning by Chicago starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks before knocking him from the game an inning later.
Adam Frazier led the Pirates with two hits. Erik Gonzalez scored twice and drove in two runs. He hit his first home run of the year.
Mitch Keller started for the Bucs. He allowed just one run on seven hits over five innings in his final start of the season. Keller walked two and struck out seven.
The two teams play again tonight at 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR is 6:40pm.
Chicago is now five games out of the Wild Card race with five games remaining.
