The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Atlanta Braves 11-1 last night at PNC Park. It was the first of three games between the two teams, and first time the Bucs have played the Braves since Atlanta scored 37 runs and hit 15 home runs in a four-game series back in May.
Pirate outfielder Ben Gamel had three hits and drove in a career-high six runs. He hit two home runs and added a double to lead the Bucs 14-hit attack. Six Pirates had at least two hits in the game, and rookie Ke’Bryan Hayes added a home run.
Starting pitcher Chase De Jong (De Young) earned his first major league victory since September, 2018. He allowed one run on four hits over his five innings.
The Pirates and Braves play again tonight at 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR is 6:40pm.
