The Pittsburgh Pirates avoided a series sweep by the Cincinnati Reds with a 6-0 victory last night at PNC Park. Starting pitcher Chad Kuhl did not allow a run and just four hits over seven innings. He walked two and struck out six to earn his fourth win of the season. The Pirates had 13 hits in the game, with Starling Marte and David Freese having three hits each.
The Pirates improved to 52-56 overall, and gained a game on the Chicago Cubs, who lost to Arizona last night. The Pirates are 5-1/2 back in the National League Central.
