The Pittsburgh Pirates avoided a sweep by the Chicago Cubs with a 6-5 victory Wednesday at PNC Park. Josh Bell hit his third home run of the season, Josh Harrison hit his second. Both had two hits a piece. Pirate starter Tyler Glasnow allowed three earned runs on six hits over 3-1/3rd innings. Wade LeBlanc picked up the win in relief. Tony Watson earned his seventh save. The Pirates touched Cubs starter Jon Lester for 10 hits and five earned runs.
The Pirates are off today and travel to play the Miami Marlins this weekend.
Bloomberg reported earlier this week a group led by Derek Jeter and Jeb Bush had won an auction to buy the Marlins, but MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said the report was not true.
On Tuesday the Pirates had the first Lithuanian player appear in a Major League game. Last night, Gift Ngoepe became the first African-born player to reach the major leagues, and he earned his first major league hit.
