The Pittsburgh Pirates lost the Los Angeles Angels 5-4 Sunday at PNC Park. Reliever Tony Watson allowed a two-run home run to Albert Pujols in the eighth inning and took the loss. Pirate starting pitcher Gerrit Cole allowed three earned runs on six hits in his 6-2/3rds innings. Jung Ho Kang and Chris Stewart had two hits each for the Pirates.
The Bucs host the New York Mets for three games beginning tonight. First pitch is 7:05pm. The series will see the return of former Pirate second baseman Neil Walker, who was traded to the Mets in the off-season for pitcher Jon Niese. Niese will start for the Pirates tonight.
Francisco Cervelli and David Freese remained out of the lineup over the weekend from injuries suffered last week. Cervelli fouled a pitch off his foot, while Freese was hit in the hand with a pitch.
The Butler BlueSox fell to the West Virginia Miners 3-2 last night. The Sox have fallen to 5-5 overall and are 1-1/2 games behind the first-place Miners in the Prospect League Eastern Division. The BlueSox host West Virginia tonight at 6:35pm.
