The Pittsburgh Pirates produced 21 hits last night in a 9-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Neil Walker and Starling Marte each had four hits in the game, including home runs. In fact, the Bucs hit three home runs in the eighth inning alone, with Pedro Alvarez adding a solo shot. Walker drove in three runs. Every Pirate batter had a hit in the game.
Pirate starter A.J. Burnett picked up his seventh win of the season. He allowed two runs on seven hits over seven innings of work. Burnett did not walk a batter and struck out four. His ERA fell to 2.05 overall.
The Bucs picked up another game on the first-place St. Louis Cardinals who lost to the Chicago White Sox 7-1 last night. The Pirates are now seven games back in the National League Central Division.
