The Pittsburgh Pirates bullpen allowed another game to escape in an 8-6 loss to the Chicago Cubs last night. The Bucs had built an early 3-0 lead, but the Cubs responded with eight extra-base hits in the game. Pirate starter Nick Kingham allowed three runs on eight hits in 5-2/3rds innings. Austin Meadows and Starling Marte had three hits each. Meadows hit his fourth home run of the season in just his 11th game.
It was the Pirates fourth loss in a row, and ninth in their last 11.
The Pirates and Cubs complete their series tonight at PNC Park. First pitch is 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am will be 6:40pm. Joe Musgrove will start for the Pirates.
Major League Baseball sided with the Pirates regarding the Anthony Rizzo slide into catcher Elias Diaz during Monday’s game, stating it should have been ruled a double play.
