The Pittsburgh Pirates bullpen allowed another victory to escape in a 9-5 loss last night in Arizona. Pirates starting pitcher Joe Musgrove allowed two earned runs over six innings before exiting after one batter in the seventh. Three Pirate relievers allowed six earned runs over the next two innings. (Musgrove allowed five hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out six.)
Jordy Mercer, Starling Marte and Elias Diaz had two hits each for the Bucs. The two teams meet again tonight in Arizona. First pitch is 9:40pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am will be 9:15pm. Trevor Williams goes to the mound for the Pirates. Clay Bucholz for the Diamondbacks.
The Chicago Cubs have taken over first place in the National League Central Division following a 7-2 victory over Milwaukee last night. The Cubs lead the Brewers by a 1/2-game. The Pirates, at 32-34, have fallen 7-1/2 back.
