While excitement builds over warmer weather, unfortunately so does litter on the roads.
So, state officials are encouraging residents to help Pick Up PA—a springtime initiative to clean up the state’s roadways.
Mike Kaiser with PennDOT says if you don’t litter, that helps their crews work on the roads instead of picking up garbage.
“When our crews are out picking up litter, that obviously means they’re not taking care of potholes or paving roadways,” Kaiser said. “So, simply by keeping the trash in your car or hanging on to it until you can dispose of it properly, you’re making a difference.”
Kaiser said PennDOT spends $14 million a year on litter removal.
