High School Basketball:–The Mars boys defeated Trinity 48-40 last night in the PIAA Western Region second round. Robby Carmody led the Planets with 24 points. Mars will meet Highlands Friday in the quarterfinals. Highlands defeated Carrick 73-54 last night.
–The North Allegheny girls improved to 27-0 with a 55-50 win over Altoona. The Tigers will meet Bethel Park Friday.
Tonight in the PIAA second round:
–Girls class 5A–Mars (20-6) will meet Thomas Jefferson (21-4) at Plum high school. Tip-off is 7:30pm.
–Girls 4A–Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic (23-3) will face Ambridge (14-11) at Baldwin high school at 6pm.
–AC Valley (21-5) will meet Kennedy Catholic (19-5) at Slippery Rock University. Tip-off is 7:30pm.
Tonight in Boys 6A: Pine-Richland (21-6) will meet State College (24-1) at Pitt-Johnstown. Tip-off is 7:30pm.
