The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 12-3 last night to complete a three-game series. The Phillies jumped on rookie pitcher Mitch Keller for eight earned runs in four innings. Keller allowed 11 hits. He walked one and struck out eight. His record fell to 1-3 this season, while his ERA climbed to 8.62.
Starling Marte had three hits for the Pirates, including his 23rd home run of the season. Marte has raised his average to .293. Josh Bell hit his 34th home run of the year. He now has 106 runs batted in, one behind National League leader Freddie Freeman.
Bryan Reynolds went hitless in three at-bats and his average fell to .330. He is now three points behind Jeff McNeil of the New York Mets in the N.L. batting race.
The Pirates open a four-game series in Colorado tonight. Game-time is 8:40pm.
