This could be the last year the Pennsylvania Game Commission releases pheasants for hunters.
Pheasant season starts Saturday for junior hunters before the season opens to hunters statewide on October 22nd.
Since the Game Commission has not been approved to increase the cost of a hunting license in 17 years, the agency has been forced to cut costs and the pheasant release program could be affected in the future. The program cost the Commission $4.3 million last year.
Over 240,000 pheasants will be released this year which is about 25,000 more than were released last year. The season runs through November 26th then a second pheasant season will be held from December 12th through February. For more information, visit pgc.pa.gov.
