Peoples Natural Gas is warning residents about scammers who will target utility customers who are threat of service termination.
Often these scammers will call attempting to rush customers to receive payment or financial information. Peoples has provided tips to avoid being scammed.
- People’s will never ask for personal information such as a date of birth or bank numbers
- Don’t rush into any payment being made with threats of immediate termination
- If you believe the call is a scam tell the caller you believe it is a scam, hang up, and call back. If the caller gets agitated or tries to stay on the phone it’s a scammer.
- Gift cards or crypto will never be an acceptable payment
- All calls come from an 800 number
- When going door to door employees will carry identifaction and will happily show ID
If you believe you may be a victim of a scam you’re asked to call the 1-800-764-0111 to inform People’s Customer Service Center.
