The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 last night at PPG Paints Arena. Carl Hagelin scored the game-winner for the Pens with less than five minutes remaining in the game. Chris Kunitz scored along with Sidney Crosby. For Crosby, it was his 26th goal of the season, and fifth game in a row he has scored. The game did not feature a single penalty. The first time that has occurred in a Penguins game in 47 years.
Goaltender Matt Murray left the game with an injury, and was replaced by Marc-Andre Fleury, who stopped all 19 shots he faced. The Hurricanes had a total of 46 shots in the game.
The Pens saw the return of defenseman Trevor Dailey from injury, but had now lost defenseman Brian Doumalin for 4-6 weeks to injury.
The Pens host the Montreal Canadiens New Year’s Eve at 7pm. Last night’s win put the Pens back in first place in the Metropolitan Division, one point better than Columbus. The Blue Jackets will attempt to win their 14th game in a row tonight.
