The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Arizona Coyotes 6-0 last night at the Consol Energy Center. Patrick Hornqvist netted his first career hat trick during the game. Sidney Crosby added three assists. Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury stopped all 30 shots on goal for his fifth shut-out of the season. The victory kept the Penguins three points in front of Philadelphia for the final Wild Card spot.
The Pens visit the Washington Capitals tonight for a 7:30pm face-off. The Caps have the most points in the Eastern Conference this season. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 7pm.
The Penguins traded winger Sergei Plotnikov to Arizona prior to Monday’s game for a minor league forward and conditional pick. Plotnikov acutally played against the Penguins in last night’s game. He had not played in the last 20 games for the Pens.
The Penguins also reacquired center Dustin Jeffrey from Arizona along with two other minor league players. Jeffrey will be assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The Penguins lost defenseman David Warsofsky to the New Jersey Devils, who claimed him off waivers. Warsofsky appeared in 12 games this season for the Pens. He was returning from an injury and the Pens were attempting to send him to the minors.
