The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the New York Islanders in a 2-1 shoot-out last night at the Consol Energy Center. Kris Letang scored the only shoot-out goal. Chris Kunitz scored the Pens only regulation goal in the first period. Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury was named the game’s number one star, stopping 25 of 26 shots in regulation, and kept the Islanders out of the net in the overtime and shoot-out. The victory was the Pens third in a row. They host the Carolina Hurricanes Thursday.
With the point they did pick up last night, the Islanders have tied the New York Rangers for second place in the Metropolitan Division. The Penguins are three points behind both teams.
Philadelphia defeated Detroit 4-3 last night and are now one point behind the Red Wings for the final Eastern Conference Wild Card. The Flyers trail the Pens by four points. The Pens visit Philly Saturday afternoon.
