The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the New York Islanders 3-2 last night on their home ice, splitting a weekend series. The Pens went 2-for-2 on power plays in the game and did not allow an Islanders power play goal. Sidney Crosby had an assist and has now passed Mario Lemieux for the most assists in Penguins history.
The Pens fell in New York Saturday 6-3. With the game tied at 1-1 after the opening period, the Penguins allowed three Islanders goals in a span of four minutes in the second period.
They visit the Detroit Red Wings tomorrow night. Face-off is 8pm. Pre-game on WISR will be 7:30pm.
The Penguins played last night without defenseman Kris Letang, who suffered a lower body injury in Saturday’s game against the Islanders. He was replaced in the Penguins lineup by Nathan Clurman, who made his NHL debut. The Penguins have now had four players make their NHL debut this season.
