The Pittsburgh Penguins will begin their 2016-17 season at Consol Energy Center and will raise their championship banners against the Washington Capitals. The Pens eliminated the Caps in the Stanley Cup quarterfinals on their way to earning the Stanley Cup this past season.
The Penguins pre-season will begin September 27th and feature six home-and-home games against three opponents. Their first pre-season game will be against the Chicago Blackhawks September 30th.
The Pens have re-signed forward Kevin Porter to a one-year, two-way contract. The 30-year old Porter played in 41 games this season, but missed the playoffs after suffering a broken ankle.
