The Pittsburgh Penguins Tuesday unveiled the logo for their 50th anniversary season in 2016-17.
A season-long celebration will start with a Fan Fest on August 27-28, featuring appearances by players, coaches, alumni and activities for fans of all ages. There also will be special opening night festivities, a documentary on the history of the Penguins, unique benefits for season ticket holders and other anniversary-themed initiatives.

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the Penguins franchise being awarded by the NHL (February 9, 1966). The team began play in the 1967-68 season.
The Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings and St. Louis Blues also were part of the NHL’s 1967 expansion class and will be marking their 50th anniversary seasons in 2016-17.
