The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Washington Capitals 3-2 in game three of their best-of-seven Eastern Conference Semi-Final Series last night at the Consol Energy Center. Rookie goaltender Matt Murray stopped 47 shots by the Capitals in the game. He stopped the first 35 Washington shots before Alexander Ovechkin scored with eight minutes remaining in the third period. The Capitals scored an empty-net goal with under a minute remaining in the game. Marc-Andre Fleury returned to the bench as Murray’s back-up for the first time since suffering a concussion. Patrick Hornqvist, Carl Hagelin and Tom Kuhnackl scored goals for the Penguins.
The Pens host game four Wednesday at 8:08pm. Hear the game on WISR 680am with the pre-game beginning at 7:30pm. The NHL announced Saturday’s game in Washington will begin at 7:15pm.
Penguins defenseman Kris Letang may be facing NHL discipline for a late hit in game three. Washington defenseman Brooks Orpik began a three-game suspension last night for a similar hit.
