Penguins General Manager Jim Rutherford moved quickly Thursday to acquire a defenseman after the team revealed that Trevor Daley has undergone knee surgery.
35-year-old defenseman Ron Hainsey will join the Penguins in a deal with the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a second round pick in this year’s draft and 26-year-old minor league forward Danny Kristo. Rutherford was familiar with Hainsey after signing him in 2013 while general manager with Carolina.
Daley is expected to miss six weeks following arthroscopic knee surgery. Hainsey has played the most games without a playoff appearance in NHL history.
