The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in overtime last night at PPG Paints Arena. Phil Kessel scored the game-winner in the overtime period. Ian Cole scored the first Penguins goal, breaking a scoreless game early in the third period. Connor McDavid tied the game with less than three minutes remaining. Matt Murray stopped 29 of 30 shots on goal for the Pens. Cam Talbot stopped 42 of 44 for Edmonton.
The victory boosted the Pens into first place in the Eastern Conference Metropolitan Division. They lead New Jersey by one point. The Pens host the Winnipeg Jets Thursday. They will have back-to-back games on the road to Minnesota and Winnipeg Saturday and Sunday nights.
